The national unit of currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF) which is broken down into 100 fillers. Notes come in denominations of 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 with coins in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, shops, restaurants and most tourist areas. In smaller, local shops you may find that they will only accept cash due to a lack of credit card facilities.
